We are Engaged!

We were lucky enough to experience a once in a lifetime holiday to the USA in June 2009.  I had 2 surprises lined up for Helen and we were about to see one of the most amazing parts of the world...

The magic actually started in Manchester Airport, we were first in line to board the non stop flight to New York, at the gate we were bumped up to business class as there was 2 spaces left...
We arrived in JFK, collected our hire car and started the 4 hour drive to Washington D.C. Unknown to us was that the sat nav would not only take us through Manhattan but through Manhattan at Rush hour! we ended up taking 7 hours to get there!

The next day we spent the whole time at the Washington Mall, amazing architecture and history, however lots of metal detectors which didn't help me with smuggling an engagement ring in my camera case!  At each metal detector I would send Helen to do something then whisper to the guards that a ring was in the camera case. As the camera case went through the x-ray machine, the guards responses were usually badly discrete thumps up and a "yeah"
After our first day, in Washington D.C. we began our journey to Helen's first surprise... A log cabin deep into Virginia State, this time a 5 hour drive.

After 4 hours and 39 minutes we started climbing up a large mountain and where only minutes from our destination, I turned to Helen and said "Here is your suprise..." She responded with "whats my suprise?"To which i proceeded to give her clues about our destination, it didnt take her many attempts to guess we were staying at the heart of Dirty Dancing... Kellerman's!
Helen as excited as she was thought the surprise was going to be something else and in true Helen style did not hide her disappointment...
We had a day around Kellerman's, Helen acting out many of the scenes...
That evening we got dressed up and sat in "the corner" ate a really nice meal and then I asked Helen if we could go out to see the sunset over the lake, she agreed but not after filling her bag (and face) with cakes from the dessert buffet!  We made our way to the Gazebo, I began to fall apart and Helen remained oblivious, I set the camera up on the tripod, and hugged her, she said lets pose, not really knowing what I was doing, I dropped to one knee and asked "will you marry me?" Here is the proof she said yes....
The rest of the trip was amazing and we really were on cloud nine, we stayed at Kellerman's for a few more days in our log cabin and visited a beautiful trail called cascade falls, that featured a 60ft waterfall at the end...
We then went on to Dorney Park, a theme park in Pennsylvania and 4 day stay in the Hamptons, Long Island for a relaxing few days...
We finished the trip in NYC were we both fell in love with the bright lights of the big apple! During our stay we visited the Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building, The Chrysler Building, The Flat Iron Building, Wall Street and central park to name a few!

It was the most amazing holiday we have ever had and we are so happy we experienced it together!
